Back in the summer of 2018, Mundo Catering had the privilege of catering for the cast and crew of the Disney+ hit movie Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on January 25th, 2020. Soon after the Sundance Premiere, the film was released on Disney+ on February 7th of this year.

During that summer, we greatly enjoyed working with the cast, crew members, producers, and those closely involved with the production. As food caterers in Portland, we have had the opportunity to work on independent film projects, feature films, and every type of production in between. Working on the set of Timmy Failure was, by far, one of our most fun and exciting experiences.

Timmy Failure | Road to the Box Office

The story of Timmy Failure originally began with a written novel by Stephan Pastis. In 2013, he introduced the world to 11-year old Timmy Failure — a self-confident and imaginative young business mogul. To assist him, Timmy hires a 1500-pound polar bear named Total as his business partner. Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made is the first book in a six-part series that details Timmy’s brazen adventures as the founder, CEO, and president of the “best detective agency in town.”

The book, as well as the movie by the same name, depicts Timmy’s adventures navigating the ups and downs of 5th grade, his overburdened mother, and teachers who simply don’t understand his natural inclination to be different; to stand out.

Timmy Failure eventually found its way towards the big screen starting in 2017. In April of that year, rumors spread that author Stephan Pastis was discussing a screenplay adaptation of Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made with director Tom McCarthy. Nearly a year later, in February 2018, it was announced that the film would premiere on Disney+ once completed.

Filming took place in multiple locations outside of the Portland metro area. Actors and crew members found themselves in locations across Canada, Louisiana, and finally, the crew landed in Portland, Oregon, to capture the iconic shots found throughout the film. With the story set in Portland, it only made sense for production to make its way into the City of Roses.

Some of the most notable actors in the film include Wallace Shawn, most famous for his role as Vizzini in the 1987 classic, The Princess Bride. In the film, he plays one of Timmy’s teachers named Mr. Crocus, who seems to share a mutual hatred with Timmy.

Another notable face is Craig Robinson. He is most well-known for his role as Darryl Philbin in the TV series The Office, as well as other roles in films such as Hot Tub Time Machine and This Is the End.

Critic and audience responses to the movie have been positive. This feel-good film comes just in time as families and households everywhere have added Disney+ to their list of preferred streaming services.

Mundo Catering had the opportunity to get to know many talented individuals while on set, and we are thrilled that we could contribute delicious meals, snacks, and drinks to help the Timmy Failure crew do what they do best. From sunup to sundown, out caterers worked to keep the actors, directors, producers, and other film crew members full and happy. We are proud to see how well this project came together and are honored to have played an important role in the process.

“Our biggest challenge while on the set of Timmy Failure? Feeding 700+ kids breakfast & lunch for 2 days. That’s a LOT of bacon & eggs!” -Sarah, Mundo Catering
